Happily Adopted!

Buddy, YGRR #4322

One year old Buddy was surrendered to YGRR by his owner who found herself in a precarious situation after a tragic car accident left her disabled. Feeling overwhelmed with the daunting task of raising a young, energetic adolescent she decided to call YGRR and ask for assistance. Buddy was warmly described as "a sweet boy with a good temperament who loves all people".

Buddy was transported to the YGRR veterinarian where he was found to be in excellent health. He was neutered and tattooed and then brought to Riverview to await his new family. During his all-but-brief stay at Riverview, the staff found Buddy to be a playful resident. He was full of life and loved playing with his tennis balls. Buddy had never lived indoors, yet he was a quick learner who did very well with housetraining. While here, he flourished in an ordered and predictable environment.

The adoption coordinator placed a call to a couple who had a long history of successful adoptions. These experiences, coupled with over twenty years of dog handling knowledge, proved to be the perfect match for Buddy. This dog savvy couple has both quality and quantity time to devote to their young golden. Buddy's new family wanted a social and friendly dog that would mesh with their two other rescued dogs. When the family and dogs met Buddy, they knew he was just perfect! His adopters have already called to say that Buddy is doing great! He fits in with their other dogs and training is going well. They love him and couldn't be more pleased! A win-win situation for all in the family!

Happily Adopted!

Casey, YGRR #4296

This is sweet, sweet Casey. Casey is a nine-year-old red girl. This senior girl was surrendered to YGRR when her elderly caregiver went to permanently live in a nursing home situation. For many years, Casey had been lovingly owned and cared for by her gentleman owner. Originally, he had rescued Casey as a very young dog from a shelter and affectionately raised her. Circumstances beyond both matured owner and dog's control meant saying good-bye to one another and their close bond.

Casey was given a comprehensive check-up by the YGRR veterinarian. Upon examination, arthritis and hip dysplasia were discovered and during her oral exam mild tartar was found. Casey was promptly given a dental cleaning. In addition, she was immediately placed on a healthy diet for weight reduction that included joint and nutritional supplements for her arthritis and hip dysplasia. In a very short period of time her physical condition and well being improved!

While at YGRR, the staff found Casey to be a joy to work with and handle. She was an easy-going resident who had exemplary kennel manners. She only wanted to please her human counterparts. And her warm and friendly personality was found to be contagious by dog and human being alike!

The team at Riverview knew this senior girl needed a new family to harmonize with her exceptional character. Affectionate Casey needed a very sensitive and caring family for her wonderful disposition. The perfect match was found for our sweet girl with retired educators who came highly recommended by YGRR's home visitor. Now, Casey enjoys hours of quality time with her new family.

Casey's new owners recently wrote a very touching letter describing how much they adore their golden girl. Here's just a portion of their correspondence which is shows the depth of love and devotion to their newest family member: "We absolutely love Casey! She is the perfect dog for us. People have commented that it looks as though she has been ours forever. Her tail is wagging all the time now. What a wonderful dog! We are thrilled you gave us the opportunity to bring Casey into our lives. I wish that her owner could know that we will take very good care of her for him. We think of him every time we look into her eyes."

Happily Adopted!

Teddy, YGRR #4191

Ready, Steady, Here Comes Teddy! Teddy is a three and a-half-year-old large, golden boy. Teddy came to YGRR with a long history of what appeared to be severe allergies. In fact, Teddy's previous owners tried, without success, to get to the bottom of his serious health issues. In that effort, the family had their golden boy seen by two different veterinarians for consultation and subsequent treatment. Sadly, Teddy's previous owners called YGRR when they could no longer afford to financially manage his medical care.

The YGRR veterinarian gave Teddy a detailed examination. Teddy was found to have several medical issues. Most notable was the fact that he did not have allergies, but a long term case of demodectic mange.*

Additionally, Teddy had infections in both ears and needed to be neutered and tattooed. While at Riverview Teddy was treated for demodectic mange and given medication to clear his ear infections. Coming to Riverview was certainly a step in the right direction for our Teddy!

Kind, reliable repeat adopters were called to meet this high energy, happy-go-lucky fellow. Teddy's forever family truly understands the Golden Retriever breed which has been shown in years past with their successful adoptions and fine relationship with YGRR. Teddy's friendly personality and playful nature is a good match with his new family's dynamic. This special family has the patience to handle and devotion to care for their newest furry family member. Teddy's luck has certainly changed! Good fortune abounds!

*(Demodectic mange is also known as "puppy mange." With this type of mange, mites are not transmitted to people or other dogs. Demodectic mange, unlike sarcoptic mange, is not contagious.)

Happily Adopted!

Sam, YGRR #4228

Sam, Sam-I-Am! Sam is a red, three-year-old golden boy who found his way to YGRR when his family felt they could not devote time to their young, active dog. Unfortunately, Sam was not allowed to live in the house with his previous owners and was not housetrained upon arrival to Riverview. He lived a very dull and sheltered life tied outdoors. As a result, he did not have much exposure or experiences with routine, daily living. As Sam's family sadly said good-bye, brighter and happier days were just ahead for him!

Sam was given a comprehensive physical evaluation by the YGRR veterinarian. He was in good overall health, but needed to be neutered and tattooed. During his stay, the staff found Sam to be sweet and affectionate. However, they noted he was cautious and sometimes timid with new situations due to his former, limited environmental experiences. The team here at Riverview was vigilant in his handling and housetraining and found Sam to be a quick learner. His willing attitude and quick aptitude were the keys for his success!

Loving, repeat adopters were paired with Sam. His new family had owned a wonderful rescue golden Bailey (YGRR #2214). Their beloved boy had recently lost his battle with cancer. This special family felt once again ready to welcome a new gentle, golden member into their home. And that was Sam, Sam-I-Am! Now, Sam receives much love and the exercise he needs and deserves. Sam's new adopters recently commented on how well he has adapted. Progress continues! For happy and content Sam, it is home-sweet-home!
