Happily Adopted! |
Misty (Dixie), YGRR #4397
|
Misty is a friendly nine-month-old Golden girl. Misty's first family was large and included very young children. Regrettably, they had neither the time nor the energy to work with and train an energetic puppy. So Misty found creative puppy ways to channel her abundant energy, undesirable and destructive as it may have been.* Misty was then given to a second family who also had a toddling child. She lived there for only a short time. It soon became apparent to this young family that Misty needed consistent training and daily exercise. They too were not in a position to meet her needs. Misty was then surrendered to a local shelter in a neighboring community. The Animal Control Officer contacted YGRR knowing we would find Misty the most appropriate, loving, and structured forever home.
Misty was seen by the YGRR veterinarian where she was brought up-to-date on her vaccinations and tattooed. The YGRR staff found Misty to be a playful, sweet girl who happily greeted everyone and got along beautifully with the other dogs in residence. She settled into the kennel quickly during her all-but-brief stay.
This lovable girl was going to need a home with dog savvy owners who could set clear parameters and provide consistent, positive training. Adopters with a healthy lifestyle, the knack of dog ownership, and who came highly recommended by the YGRR Home Visitor were called to meet Misty. They were hoping for a young dog that would get along well with their older Golden girl, Katey. All went well at the scheduled adoption appointment! Misty is now lovingly referred to as Dixie. Dixie's forever family has written to say she has settled in to her new home and is getting along well with her new older sister. Most recently Dixie has started obedience classes to keep her energy channeled in a positive direction and provide constructive challenges. Her truly, dedicated family said, "Dixie is a precious girl who makes a nice addition to the family." All is well! Dixie delights in two healthy walks a day and her fenced-in backyard where she loves fetching tennis balls.
*Be mindful. Although the idea of owning a puppy with young children may appear to be a "lovely picture," there is much more substance to that fairy tale notion. Puppies are young active dogs that need consistent, daily exercise which includes walks and constructive obedience training, not just love. Be mindful to the level of commitment and work before purchasing any dog.

Happily Adopted! |
Havana (Barley), YGRR #4349
|
Happy Havana is a six-month-old blonde boy. He was surrendered to YGRR because his previous owners did not have time to devote to an energetic puppy. Havana, as all young dogs, needed consistent and fair training coupled with exercise. Unfortunately his former family simply could not dedicate this type of attention to him. They described him as a friendly, playful boy. As Havana's family said good-bye to their playful pup brighter days were just ahead!
Havana had a healthy appointment with the YGRR veterinarian. His treatment included up-to-date vaccinations, neutering, and tattooing. During his brief stay at Riverview, Havana received first class care. The staff quickly noted he was a nice puppy who needed reliable training and exercise.
The Adoption Coordinator was looking for a family who could provide the constructive outlets needed for energetic Havana. Just a couple was found! These experienced dog owners came highly recommended by the YGRR Home Visitor. Besides being active, this unique couple was noted to have a devotion to their dogs and a commitment to working together with their beloved furry family members. Soon they were asked to come and meet young Havana. Everything went very well at their scheduled appointment. This family's active, outdoor lifestyle coupled with understanding the time commitment and the task of puppyhood proved just the right match!
Now Havana is known as "Barley" and has a loving and nurturing new, forever home. Barley now enjoys daily walks, weekend hikes, and receives the mental stimulation a young dog needs! Only the best for Barley!

Isabelle (Bella), YGRR #4399
|
Irresistible Isabelle! Isabelle is a ten-year-old blonde, spayed female. This lovely girl had lived ten happy years with an adoring family that included three young boys. Unfortunately, Isabelle's family was in the process of a monumental move to a southern state where their new living arrangements did not allow for dogs. Isabelle was affectionately described as "the sweetest dog ever"! Sadly, this family said good-bye to their senior Golden girl knowing YGRR would place their loyal dog in the best forever home.
Isabelle was brought to the YGRR veterinarian and given a thorough exam. A complete geriatric workup was performed which included x-rays and blood work. It was determined Isabelle needed three masses removed which later were found to be benign. YGRR's veterinarian also tested her for Lyme. Isabelle came up a strong positive and was put on doxycycline. Isabelle was noted to be overweight. Before leaving the vet's hospital, she was placed on a healthy diet for her large size, brought up-to-date on her vaccinations, and tattooed. Isabelle came to Riverview where she was noted to be a very friendly and spunky senior. She was a great role model for the other Goldens in residence and did not present herself as an older girl!
The Adoption Coordinator contacted a family whose dynamics would prove to match with Isabelle! This couple has adopted two rescue Goldens from YGRR in the past. Although they sadly lost their beloved family member, they were certainly ready for another friendly and loving senior Golden. This couple has the experience and truly understands the breed. Isabelle's name has been lovingly changed to "Bella." Bella's new family has reported she is doing great! Without a doubt, Bella has found a fantastic family with whom to spend the rest of her life.

Happily Adopted! |
Cosmo, YGRR #4366 |
Cosmo is a blonde, happy-go-lucky, eleven-month neutered puppy. This young Golden was surrendered when his previous owners found out their adorable boy had severe hip dysplasia. Unfortunately, his young family did not have the time to care for Cosmo's condition or the finances to afford his costly surgery. They described Cosmo as "the perfect family dog" and knew YGRR would find the most appropriate, loving, forever home.
Cosmo received a thorough examination from the YGRR veterinarian. He was found to be in good health other than his dysplastic condition. After consultation with the orthopedic surgeon, it was determined Cosmo needed hip surgery as soon as a date could be arranged. Our happy boy came to Riverview to await his surgery date. While at Riverview the staff found Cosmo to be an enthusiastic puppy that loved people and was friendly with other dogs. He was a very pleasant and easy resident to look after. Soon Cosmo's surgery date arrived; he had surgery to repair his hip, and the orthopedic surgeon reported the operation a success!
After recovery, Cosmo was placed on the active adoption list. This would give Cosmo an opportunity to settle into his new home before returning in the fall to have surgery on his other hip. The adoption coordinator paired this special boy with dog-savvy repeat adopters. This young family can provide a stable, loving home, the time, and resources a young dog needs and requires. Now Cosmo enjoys daily walks, playing with children, and chasing countless tennis balls. We are delighted Cosmo has found his forever home! |
