Stephanie #4696 and Bailey #4952

Happily Adopted!

Twelve-year-old Bailey was surrendered to YGRR when her owner, who had health concerns, was moving and could not take Bailey along. Bailey had grown up with the family’s children and was described as a very friendly and loving dog. She was well-behaved and, although she was slowing down due to her age, she loved to be anywhere her people were.

Bailey was admitted and given a complete senior checkup, including blood work and x-rays. She had multiple masses that were removed and biopsied, and her shots were brought up-to-date. One of the masses turned out to be malignant, but surgical excision was complete.

Bailey was a very happy girl during her time at Riverview, always giving her Golden smile and wagging her tail. Unlike most Goldens, Bailey had no interest in toys. She was a little love bug, however. Her sweet and expressive face (along with gentle hand nudging) meant that patting her could easily become a fulltime job for any staff member or volunteer who happened to be handy! She also enjoyed the company of other dogs.

Bailey was adopted into a home that already included fellow Rescue Golden Stephanie #4696. (Click here to read Stephanie's story.) These mellow girls had no problem adapting to each other. Bailey tries to entice 11 ½-year-old Stephanie to play by sticking her nose in Stephanie’s ear and flipping it up in the air. Stephanie thinks this is a little weird, but she has no complaints with her new sister. Both girls enjoy strolls through the neighborhood and then relaxing in a comfy dog bed at home. They also love car rides.

Stephanie quickly showed Bailey where the cookie jar is, and anytime a human goes near it, the girls are ready just in case the human is overcome by an irresistible urge to give them a treat. Luckily, both girls have made the “nice” list (what Golden doesn’t, even when they are a little naughty?), and Santa has been very busy shopping for all kinds of goodies for them. They can hardly wait until Christmas morning!

These happy endings would not be possible without your generous support. We make our facility, Riverview, the next best thing to a home, where every dog gets daily love and attention from staff and volunteers. Because of you, in addition to young and healthy Goldens, we are able to take in Goldens of all ages with various medical conditions and give them the treatment they need and deserve. This includes any necessary diagnostic testing, surgeries, and consults with veterinary specialists. Thank you for helping to create happy endings for the thousands of Goldens that have come through these doors.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year from Bailey, Stephanie, and all the Rescue Goldens!

Gemma and Ziggy #4929
Happily Adopted!

Ziggy came to Rescue when his owners divorced and had to move. He had lived with his family since he was a puppy. Although his family was sad to have to give him up, they knew that Ziggy deserved a home that could give him the attention and care that he needed and which they were unable to provide at the present time.

Ziggy went straight to one of the vet hospitals we work with, where he was given a complete physical exam and was neutered. He was a very skinny boy, weighing in at less than 50 pounds, but was otherwise healthy. Although Ziggy was 4 ½-years-old, he still had some puppyish bad habits. He would check out countertops for food, jump on people when he was excited, pull on the leash, dig, and chew! He also was afraid of loud noises and the dark – his owners would leave a night light on for him!

Despite his bad habits, Ziggy was a very sweet and loveable boy. Whenever he was with a person, he would be right at their feet. At Riverview, Ziggy loved to spend time in the home simulation room and offices, where he would show off the toys and solicit belly rubs. He gained some weight during his stay despite all the exercise he was getting. He was a good boy with and enjoyed the company of other dogs, as well. When it was time to match Ziggy up with a new family, we knew that a young playmate in the house would offer Ziggy some company and a way to get out some of his energy.

Adopters were called who had a 1-year-old Golden named Gemma who was looking for a sibling. Ziggy and Gemma were introduced at Ziggy’s adoption appointment, and now the two dogs are inseparable. They love to race around the yard, where Ziggy is lightning fast and always beats his sister! The dogs go for daily walks in the woods where they love to leap over fallen logs and explore all the smells! Ziggy’s adopters are very patient and willing to work on his manners, which is a good thing, since they quickly learned that Ziggy could clean off a plate faster than they could get to him! With the proper amount of exercise, Ziggy is able to be a couch potato in the house, and he loves to sleep as close to his people as he can get after a busy day playing and exploring. He has also gained an additional 10 pounds, which he needed, since going home. Sweet Ziggy is having a blast in his new home. And, in turn, with structure and consistency (and baby gates!), Ziggy’s new family describes him as a joy 24 hours a day!

Max (Atticus) #4815
Happily Adopted!

Max’s owners had to give him up at the age of 1 ½ when new management at their apartment complex decided to enforce the no-pets policy in their lease. Max was a much loved member of his family and was still very puppyish. He would jump up when he was excited, chew if he was bored, and pull on his leash. However, he behaved himself around the family’s pet bird and loved the family’s children and everyone he met.

When Max came to YGRR, he was neutered, his vaccinations were updated, and he was tested for heartworm disease and several tick illnesses. He was found to be a healthy boy, and he quickly settled in at Riverview. He thrived on the attention of staff and volunteers. He enjoyed walks and loved to play with the other dogs, though his puppyish exuberance dictated that he play with equally rambunctious pals. He really loved to come into the home simulation room attached to the staff offices. There, he could pull toy after toy out of the toy box and race around showing it off.

Max needed a home where he would get the proper amount of exercise for a Golden his age. An adopter who wanted a sweet dog that she could jog with was invited to meet Max. Because she lived in a busy neighborhood, she needed a dog that enjoyed interacting with people of all ages. She was committed to training a new dog, as well. When Max came into the adoption room, she knew he was the dog for her. Max seemed equally smitten, and he was soon on his way to his new home!

Max, now “Atticus,” has settled in well. He is a hit with everyone on the street where he lives. He loves going for his daily walks, and he has some doggy friends that he loves to play with, as well. His adopter says he is absolutely adorable, and everyone he meets seems to agree. People are drawn to him wherever he goes, and they have to stop to say "Hi." Atticus loves the attention, and he now has a life where he is included in all his adopter’s activities, much to both their delight!
