Pounchki #4874

Happily Adopted!

Pounchki is the last of the mixed breed puppies that were born here at Riverview to find a home. These beautiful pups were born to a very sweet Golden named Biscuit. Doggy DNA testing has confirmed that daddy was a boxer! The puppies seem to have inherited the best of both breeds, and they all have the super sweet Golden dispositions of their mom.

Pounchki, now “Cosmo,” went to live with repeat adopters who had two children. Pounchki loved the pool at Riverview, and now gets to go swimming with his new Golden brother, Strider, also adopted from YGRR at eight months of age. When not swimming after sticks for hours, the two boys play chase in their large fenced yard or go for long walks with the family. Pounchki’s adopters report that he is a sweetheart and their constant companion. They love having him as part of their family! Only the best for our little Polish donut!

Lucky, YGRR #4866

Happily Adopted!

Five-year-old Lucky found his way to Rescue after he was hit by a car. Lucky’s owners loved him, but both had recently lost their jobs and were struggling financially. Lucky’s vet was concerned that he would not receive the follow-up care he needed and spoke with his owners about surrendering him to Rescue if they could not afford to treat him. Lucky had lacerations to his hind leg, but had suffered no broken bones. The vet called us to let us know about Lucky’s circumstances and we followed up with his owners. Lucky’s owners were very sad to have to bid their boy goodbye, but realized it was in his best interest.

When Lucky was picked up, it was quickly apparent that his leg had become infected and ulcerated. The wounds were cleaned and Lucky was prescribed antibiotics and pain medication. He was also neutered and treated for worms. After months of veterinary care and some TLC, Lucky’s leg finally healed and he was slowly allowed to resume such activities as walking and playing outside.

Lucky had lived outside on a tie-out and slept in the basement. He was not allowed in the house because one of the children was allergic. Initially, Lucky was very shy and was terrified of walking on the tile floors. With the help of the patient staff at Riverview, Lucky’s sweet personality began to shine through. He overcame his fears and we found him to be a mild-mannered and very loving dog. Adopters were called who had owned several Goldens and adored the breed. When they met Lucky, it was love at first sight. They have reported that Lucky has exceeded their expectations and is very gentle and sweet. He now sleeps next to their bed and enjoys playing soccer in his own safely fenced backyard. He is learning some new commands, and everyone who meets him agrees he is quite the guy. Lucky is lucky indeed!

Bella, YGRR #4893

Happily Adopted!

Seven-year-old Bella was owned and loved by a military family. For the first few years of Bella’s life, she moved around the country with her family. When Bella’s family had to move once more, they were not able to find affordable housing that would allow large dogs. Relatives in California took Bella in temporarily, but Bella’s family missed her and looked forward to the day they would be reunited. When that day finally came, and the family was once again in housing that permitted dogs, they flew Bella to New England to be with them. Bella’s reunion with her family was bittersweet, however. With the birth of a new baby and another toddler in the home, Bella was not getting the same amount of attention she had been used to. Bella became anxious and began crying at night, keeping everyone awake. In desperation, Bella’s family relegated her to the basement at night so they could get some sleep, but when she began scratching at the basement door of the rental house, it was clear that Bella needed to find a home where she could once again get all the attention she craved.

Upon arrival at Riverview, Bella was found to be a very sweet and sensitive girl. Adopters were called who were looking for a dog that would do well with their grandchild and could calmly keep an elderly mother company during the day. Bella’s adopters have reported that she has transformed from a somewhat timid dog into a happy member of the family. Bella loves being the center of attention once again, and she also loves to chase the squirrels either in her own large backyard or at a nearby park. She also really loves going anywhere in the car! Bella’s new family reports that she is the “Velcro dog” they were hoping for, and that she is a perfect match!

Rory, YGRR #4902

Happily Adopted!

One-year-old Rory was given up because his owners had a baby on the way and they couldn't give Rory the time and attention he needed. They described Rory as a typical, happy Golden who was always wagging his tail and loved everyone.

Rory was taken to the YGRR veterinarian where he was given his tattoo and found to be a healthy Golden boy. He came to Riverview and didn't have to wait long for his new adoptive home. An adopter who was looking for a young dog and had the time for training and exercise met Rory and knew he was the one for her! Rory is now in his new home where he and his new owner are enjoying lots summer adventures!
