Your dog loves to go for car rides. He leaps into the passenger seat, tail wagging and sticks his head out the window, ready for a ride to the beach or park. But before hitting the open road, take a few precautions to ensure the safety of your dog, yourself and others. Dogs love to hang out the window, sniffing the breeze, but if you allow your dog to do this, his eyes and nostrils could be damaged by debris and bugs. Cold air forced into his nose and mouth could make the dog ill. Also, a quick stop could throw the dog from the vehicle. High-strung dogs that are unrestrained may jump out of an open window, even at high speeds, at the sight of a squirrel, cat or other dog. If your dog suffers from car-sickness try giving him ginger snaps. Depending on his size, give him one or two about an hour before your trip. Crumble up a few and continue to give them during the ride. Some fortunate owners have found this cure to work!
