Within the Six New England States |

The six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) constitute the area from which YGRR accepts Goldens in need, as well as the area into which YGRR will place Goldens. We limit ourselves to assisting Goldens from this geographic area because, quite simply, it is all we can afford both financially and humanly. Our volunteers do an extraordinary job of moving dogs around and it would be too taxing to try to accept dogs from neighboring states. Rescue organizations exist in adjacent states and we refer Goldens in need from those areas to them. We often receive adoption requests from outside New England but, regrettably, we cannot comply with those requests. While we are confident that the prospective homes in those areas are wonderful, we want to do everything we can to make sure that our Goldens are returned to us should they need rescuing again. We believe that the further removed a dog is from our area of operation, the greater likelihood that his or her adopter will not be able to return the dog to us. Since YGRR is adamantly opposed to shipping dogs around the country -- all our Rescue Goldens travel exclusively on the ground, in cars or vans -- we feel we must limit ourselves to New England. Just this year, a YGRR Golden found himself in need of help in the mid-west. His YGRR adopters had moved and did not contact us, but fortunately they did contact a Golden rescue in their area. Another reason that we limit ourselves to New England is that a personal home visit by a YGRR volunteer is required prior to adoption. Since the majority of our home visitors reside in New England, they cannot do home visits outside our area.
We sincerely regret the disappointment our policy may cause for individuals who do not live in New England. If you live outside New England and you would like to adopt a Golden, please refer to the Golden Retriever Club of America National Rescue League Committee to find a Golden Rescue in your geographic area. Remember, often there are Goldens in shelters -- check them too. Individuals who previously resided in New England and adopted Goldens from us at that time are exempt from this policy. However, we do encourage them to contact the Golden Rescue in their area as well. If you are interested in adopting a Rescue Golden and you live in one of the six New England states, we welcome and encourage you to review the information about our adoption program.
Thank you for your understanding.
